Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu.
Day 02: Kathmandu Tour to Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Gujeshwori and Jal Narayan and Trip briefing at Hotel.
Day 03: Kathmandu to Syabrubesi(2000m, 165km, 6 hours).
Day 04: Syabrubesi to Gyirong (60km 2 hours) by crossing border.

Detail Itinerary of Kailash Overland Tour 14 Days

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu.

Receive you at Kathmandu-TIA airport and transfer to Hotel in Kathmandu. Collecting passport and visa form to apply your Tibet/China Paper group visa. Overnight at Hotel

Day 02: Kathmandu Tour to Pashupatinath,

Breakfast and tour around Pashupatinath Temple and Boudha Stupa. Prepare for Kailash Tour.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Syabrubesi(2000m, 165km, 6 hours).

Breakfast, take a private vehicle drive towards Syabrubesi, which takes around 6 hours. The road is not good but full of scenery. Stroll around Syabrubsi and observe their lifestyle. Take rest as you need to start your walking journey.

Day 04: Syabrubesi to Gyirong (60km 2 hours) by crossing border.

We will board on a Tourist Bus after breakfast and begin our journey along the black-topped road to the freshly opened friendship bridge at the Nepal-Tibet border. In around 2 hours, we will arrive in Kerung, Tibet’s first village. Walk around and enjoy the surrounding.

Day 05: Gyirong Rest / Acclimatization day

Today you will have rest for acclimatization in Gyirong. Walking tour around the Kerung village and have some yoga.

Day 06: Gyirong to Saga (4400m, 350km, 6 hours).

Drive through the high hills on a nice black-topped road to Saga. The path climbs up and down the Thong La and La Lung pass before to Saga. Along the route, we’ll visit Lake Peikutso and the Tibetan people’s traditional yak and sheep grazing techniques. Guesthouse for the night.

Day 07: Saga to Mansarovar Lake (4500m, 330km, 6 hours).

Drive to the world’s highest freshwater lake after breakfast. The holy lake of Mansarovar looks greenish-blue in color, the resting place of Lord Vishnu’s. Kailash, Gurula-Mandala, and Rakshas tal surrounds Mansarovar Lake. The Rawana created Rakshasa Tal, which is why the villagers believe the water is poisoned.

Day 08: Holy bath and Pooja and drive to Darchen (4700m, 50, 2 hours).

Immerse yourselves in the colors of religion by visiting sacred lake of Mansarovar. You will perform a few rituals before heading to Darchen. The town is located directly in front of Mt. Kailash, which is considered sacred. Overnight at Darchen

Day 09: Drive to Yamadwar and Trek to Dirapuk(4900m, 25km, 6 hours)

Breakfast and drive to Tarboche, beginning point of Kailash Parikrama. Tarboche is home to Yamadwar, a gateway of death god. Trek for 5 hours covering a distance of 16 km to Derapuk, which sits in front of Mt. Kailash’s north face. Beautiful views of the Gurula-Mandala, Ape, Kamet, and other high peaks are seen.

Day 10: Trek to Zuthulpuk via Drolma La Pass(5600m)(4500m, 28km, 9 hours)

The longest and most difficult day of the trip. Wake up early morning, breakfast and continue trek towards Shiva-Tsal and Drolma La Pass and descending steeply to the Lham-chu Khir River’s banks, lunch and continue trek to Zuthulpuk, visit miracle Cave with Milerepa foot print if you have time.

Day 11: End of Kailash Trek and drive back to Saga(4400m, 8 km walk for 3 hours and 400km, 7 hours drive).

Visit Milarepa cave, and breakfast, walk for 3-4 hours to the end of Kailash trek and drive to Darchen, lunch and return drive to Saga.

Day 12: Saga to Gyirong(3800m, 350km, 6 hours drive).

A leisurely driving journey back to Kerung. Spend free time and relaxing. Overnight at Kerung

Day 13: Gyirong to Kathmandu(230km, 8 hours drive).

We will then drive back to Kathmandu crossing Nepal Tibet Border. Yolo Hike will organize the farewell dinner at a Nepalese cultural restaurant. Stroll around Kathmandu valley or Thamel at night.

Day 14: Departure from Kathmandu

We will drop you at the international airport in Kathmandu for your onward journey home. Tour ends.

Permits for Kailash Overland Tour

Gyirong border is a recently opened entry point to Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Several permits such as 1. Tibet Travel Permit, 2. Chinese Group Permit, 3. Alien Travel Permit and 4. Military Permit are necessary for Kailash yatra. All these permits we will arrange once you book Kailash tour with us and all these permit fee includes on Kailash tour package.

Mt Kailash Overland Tour-Booking Process

Your Kailash Tour is confirmed once you send us your passport copy and some trip advance payment into our company bank account. You passport must be minimum of 8 months validity prior to your travel date to Kailash.

We try to provide you the best possible accommodation. The hotel and guest house are comfortable and friendly on 14 days Kailash tour. The twin sharing 3 star hotel accommodation you will get in Kathmandu, and basic guest house will be there on 3 days Kailash Trek.

Meals on Mount Kailash Overland Yatra

Three times vegetarian meals-breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided. Snacks and drinks like chocolates, cookies, almonds, bhujiya, tea and coffee also served in the trip.

Money Matter and ATMS

Yuan is an official currency of Tibet, China. The other currencies such as US dollar, Euro, and British pound are also accepted, and before traveling to Tibet, we recommend exchanging your money into Chinese Yuan. If you’re going through Kathmandu, change your money at any money exchange counter in Kathmandu. Also, possible to exchange money and use ATMs in Lhasa if you arrive Tibet from China. Finding ATMs and banks in rural areas of Tibet is difficult, it is recommended that please bring cash with you to cover all of your expenses.

Seasons(Best time) for Kailash Mansarovar Overland Tour

April to the end of September are good time for Kailash tour. From early November to early April, Kailash tour is not possible due to extreme weather changes. Throughout the winter season, road to Kailash is closed due to heavy snowfalls.

Documents and Visa

All travelers passports have a minimum of 8 months validity prior to Kailash travel date. All necessary Tibet Travel permits and Tibet/China group visa will take care by us, once you confirm the trip and sending your passport copy and trip advance payment into our bank account.

The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu will open from Monday to Friday. All you need to arrive in Kathmandu 3 working days before Kailash tour departure dates. It takes 3 working days to apply and get visa from Chinese Embassy. Your original passport is necessary to apply Tibet/China paper group visa at Chinese embassy in Kathmandu.

Travel Insurance Necessary for Mt Kailash Overland Trip

We suggest to buy proper medical and travel insurance prior to the Kailash trip. Make sure that your travel insurance police will cover emergency rescue and medication coverage.

Altitude Sickness

Altitude is a major risk factor. You will drive in an average altitude of 4000 to 4600m crossing above 5000m pass. Common altitude sickness symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, loss of appetite, and difficulty in sleeping may feel during the trip.

No need to worry with these symptoms, please keep on re-hydrate and see your body that helps to acclimatize. Diamox is a prescription medication for high altitude sickness. We also carry oxygen tanks.

Physical Fitness

Kailash Trip is an overland driving tour by bus or jeep except 3 days trek around Kailash Parikrama. Relatively, you should be in good health. If you have any chronic health problems, please consult your doctor. Regular hiking, jogging, gym and yoga-meditation are helpful for the trip.

Additional Costs on Kailash Tour

Hiring personal porter and renting a horse for Kailash Parikrama will be an extra price. Your guide will arrange a horse and porter while on Kora, if you would like to hire a horse with a horseman it costs-USD 650 to 700 and USD 190, a porter for 3 days Kailash Kora Trek.
