Paragliding Tour Difficulty
Paragliding is not a physically demanding activity — at least not for the passenger. So, don’t worry if you’re not very athletic. As long as you’re in reasonably good health, you’re fit to fly. However, paragliding is not suitable for pregnant women or those with asthma, epilepsy, osteoporosis, or heart disease. If you suffer from high blood pressure or diabetes, it is best to get your doctor’s advice before taking part in this sport.
Additionally, if you have extreme fear of heights or a tendency to behave erratically when scared, perhaps paragliding is not for you, as it can put both you and your pilot in a dangerous situation. The maximum weight limit is 100 kilograms. There’s usually no age limit for paragliding — even children as young as 4 years old are welcome to join — but again, please check with the company you’re booking with.
Season for paragliding in Kathmandu Nepal
Paragliding is a weather-dependent sport. It’s not safe to fly when there are strong winds, lightnings, rain showers, or storms. Paragliding in Nepal is possible in all seasons except the rainy season in July and August. The paragliding season in Nepal starts in September and ends in early June. The perfect flying time is March, April, May, September, October, and November. In these seasons you can get a stunning view of Phewa Lake and Annapurna Ranges above 8,000 meters. The sun needs to be out long enough to heat the earth and create the thermals necessary for lift. The early morning flights tend to be shorter as the thermals haven’t developed, but are calmer if you want a less turbulent flight. By late morning, the thermals will be active which creates the best conditions for paragliding (i.e. you will be in the air longer).
The flights are operated two times a day: in the morning at around 10 AM and 1:00 AM. If you prefer a calm and smooth flight, try to book the morning session, as the thermal hasn’t yet formed early in the day. By noon when the sun has warmed up the land, flights can be more turbulent — or more exciting, depending on how you look at it.
Safe for Paragliding in Kathmandu
Paragliding in Kathmandu is generally a safe activity. It’s probably safer than crossing the street at a busy intersection in town. In case of an accident, you have a reserve chute for safety. However, it is an extreme adventure sport and risks are involved. The biggest risk is during take-off and landing if there is a sudden change in wind. Paragliding is operated by internationally certified pilots with safety. You don’t need to have any experience to go for tandem paragliding flight. The pilot will do all work so you just sit back, relax, and enjoy incredible views.
Paragliding In Nepal Cost
Tandem Paragliding flights typically cost around USD 150 for a 30-minute flight. The price includes transportation to and from your hotel and insurance. Photo and video services are usually charged separately at about NPR 2,000.
Taking Photos/Video
For an additional 2,000 NPR, we will take photos/videos of your flight which get transferred to you immediately after the flight. They allow you to bring your camera during the flight but discourage taking any cameras that are not a sports camera (i.e. GoPro). However, taking your own camera equipment is at your own risk and they won’t cover any damage.
Equipment for paragliding in Kathmandu
It is chilly up in the air so we recommend wearing long pants, closed shoes, a long shirt and a windbreaker. Leave your personal belongings you don’t want to bring locked up in the paragliding office. Ideally, you should put on something comfortable that does not restrict movement. Avoid wearing anything flowy, cloth with hooks that may catch the glider lines. Shoes must be closed and secure. No flip flops or anything that might slip off your feet.
