Chitlang Hiking Trek is an ancient trade route between Kathmandu and India. We do a pleasant day hiking to Chitlang Village via Chandragiri Hills. Chitlang is becoming a very popular weekend holidays destinations in Kathmandu now.

The Chitlang Trek offers wonderful views of Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayas from Annapurna to Everest. Chitlang is a traditional Newari village, and also called a small paradise on the earth. You will get a pleasant hiking experience of peaceful nature and landscapes. Chitlang is not only famous for hiking and trek but also the bird watching too. Chitlang boasts 160 bird species of birds.

The Chitlang holidays trip begins from Thankot and ends at Kulekhani. You will walk through forest and charming villages with enjoying the beautiful mountain views.

Chitlang is to the South West of Kathmandu. It preserves the temples with amazing wood and stone carving, artistic rest houses, stone taps, and the centuries long inscriptions. You will see diversity in flora and fauna.

The Tamang, Magar, Chhetri, Brahman, Newar and Gurung lives Chitlang hiking route. The large green fields, pearl tree garden, Chitlang village and Kulekhani Indrasarovar lake are the attraction of Chitlang Trek. A new hiking trail is beautiful naturally and culturally.

On the way to Chitlang village via Chandragiri Hills offer an awesome views of city, valley and the mountains from Annapurna to Everest. Once explore Chandragiri hill, we hike down to Chitlang village, a typical Newari village. The following day, you trek to Indrasarovar lake and Kulekhani and drive back to Kathmandu via Pharping.

Detail Itinerary of Chitlang Hiking and Trek 2 Days

Day 01: Drive to Thankot and Trek to Chitlang(2300m, 15km,5 hours)

Your guide receive you at your hotel and drive to the trekking starting point, Thankot and trek to Chitlang. It is approximately 4 hours hike to Chitlang through jungle via Chandragiri Hills. Upon reaching Chitlang you will have lunch. After lunch enjoy view of Pear garden. Afternoon visit Bhairav temple, Ashok Chaitya, Shivalaya and Sat dhara. Evening camp fire with Barbeque on your own expenses.

Day 02: Hike down to Markhu(10km, 3 hours), Boating and drive back to Kathmandu(60km, 2 hours)

Early morning after breakfast, hike 3 hours down to Indra Sarovar Lake. Enjoy boating on Indrasarovar Lake. Lunch at Markhu. Enjoy 2 hours scenic drive to Kathmandu.

Trip Information - Chitlang Hiking and Trek 2 Days

Chitlang Hiking Trek-Seasons

Trekking around Chitlang and Chandragiri Hill is possible all around the year. In the rainy season, the leeches may disturb Chitlang trek in rainy season. The mountains are in the clouds almost in the rainy season. Except rainy season, you can go for Kathmandu to Chitlang Trek any time of the year. The weather is nice and warm with sunny day, and can enjoy beautiful views of the Himalayas. The Chitlang and Chandragiri Trek is a less crowded than other treks in Nepal.

Meals on Chitlang Village Trek

Three times meals-breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in the trek from Kathmandu to Dhulikhel and Nagarkot. You can pick up Nepalese, Chinese, Continental and local cuisines from menus of guest house. It is advisable to order the meals what you want to have. Please do not waste meals in the trek. You will have to eat at the same hotel where you stay. For lunch, we stop somewhere on the trail. The drinks like water, beer, coke, whisky and tea or coffee are not included in the trek price.

Accommodation on Chitlang Kulekhani Trek

You will stay in a simple neat and clean budget guest house and tea house in the trekking. The rooms with twin beds and private/attached toilets are available. The large dining room with an iron gas cylinder fitted with a Chimney which is cozy and warm. No heater in the rooms. Please pack your backpack as light as you can. This is a short trek, please leave your big luggage and unnecessary things at your hotel in Kathmandu. It is completely free of cost. Every hotel in Kathmandu has that facility. It is nice to bring a comfortable medium size day pack to carry things.

Chitlang Markhu Trek Permit/Documents

Trekking permit is also necessary for Chitlang Markhu Trek. The national park fee is the permit for this trek that costs USD 30 per head. We will organize/arrange your permit once you book Chitlang Markhu Trek. Your passport copy and passport photos is necessary for it.

Chitlang Markhu Trek-Group Size

The group size will be 1 to 30 people in this trek. The group is form of children to seniors, male and female from different parts of the world. The age limit will be minimum 10 to 80 years old.

Chitlang Markhu Trek Cost

Chitlang Markhu Trek cost ranges from USD 250 to USD 360 per person, it depends on the group size and the mode of transfer either by public bus or private car or jeep. In the price, it includes meals, accommodation, transfer, permit and guide. The drinks are not included in the cost.

Entry requirements-Passport and Visa

You’ll need a valid passport, a minimum of 6 months validity, so remember to check the expiry date.
Please, carry a copy of the photo page of your passport while travelling and leaving a copy at home with family or friends.

All foreign nationals (except Indian passport holders) require a visa to enter Nepal. Visas are obtainable from embassies abroad, land borders (including India and Tibet), and on arrival at Kathmandu-TIA airport.

Getting a visa at the airport or land borders can sometimes take time due to long queues. There have been instances when travelers are asked to show proof of exit from the country, ie flight tickets. You may also need to provide two passport photos and the following fees in US dollars (subject to change, cash only). Your visa application form may require you to state the dates on which you enter and exit the country.

Passport and visa

Your passport should be a minimum of 6 months validity and you will get Nepal visa on arrival at Kathmandu-TIA airport. Multiple entry visa valid for 15 days costs US$ 30, 30 days costs US$ 50 and 90 days costs US$125.

Tipping

Tipping is customary your guide and driver. Tips are greatly appreciated as a gesture of thanks for their professionalism and leadership during your trip. The amount is entirely a personal preference; however, as a guideline, tip is from $10 USD-$15 USD per person per day are advisable.

Money Matter

USD is also widely accepted in Nepal. ATMs can only be found in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Bhaktapur. Make sure you carry sufficient cash in Nepal rupees to cover your needs when travelling outside Kathmandu. Credit cards are not widely accepted. The old, torn, and fade notes is very difficult to exchange at banks and money exchange. Please ensure that you have new and clean notes.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is compulsory so that it covers personal liability, cancellation, loss of luggage and personal effects.

Solo Travelers

Solo travelers should not have to pay more to travel joining in group trips. The single travelers joining in trips are provided in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of same sex.
