Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek-Accommodation
The 3-star hotel accommodation in Kathmandu and Pokhara with breakfast included. During the trek, the basic teahouses will be. The comfortable and better quality teahouses with attached bathroom at lower parts of the trek and more basic with bare necessities accommodation will be in the higher parts of the trek.
Meals on Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek
Only the breakfast are included in Kathmandu and Pokhara, whereas all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are inclusive in the trek. You will get better food in this trek as it is a well-established trekking route of Nepal. You will get a quite good choices of meals such as Western, Indian, Chinese, and Nepali food. Tea and soft drinks are widely available at the teahouses like coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and alcohol too.
In the breakfast, you may have choices of spicy Nepali omelet with chili, onion, and tomatoes or piping hot porridge with milk, Toast with jam or honey, Nepali spiced tea or coffee.
On the Lunch, you have choices of Dal bhat (rice, curry, lentils), chowmin, Nepali tea or a soft drink. Also in the dinner, Teahouse offers a variety of soups, Tibetan bread , Fried macaroni with vegetables, Pasta, Pizza (of a simple style), Curry , Fried rice, Custard , Rice pudding, Beer/ spirits, and Tea/ Coffee.
Physical fitness
We walk 6-7 hours a day covering a distance of 15 km to 20 km. No past experience of hiking is necessary. The people from all walks of life, shapes, and sizes trek to Ghorepani Poon Hill. So, prepare yourself physically by increasing your stamina enjoy the trek. Remember, the better prepared, the more enjoyable the trek.
A typical day
The day starts early in the morning around 6 or 7 am with breakfast. After breakfast, you set off walk with guide. You guide will let you know the names of the mountains on the way. Lunch on treks is taken in teahouses along the way.
On arrival at the teahouse (trekking lodge) where you are going to sleep, it is best to order dinner straight away to give them time to prepare it. You can chat with other trekkers and your guide during and after dinner. Don’t forget to order breakfast before bed, and we suggest sleeping early on the trek.
Hot Shower
Hot showers are available, but you must pay for them. Expect to pay around $3 to $5 per shower, the higher you go the more you need to pay for shower.
Altitude Sickness in Poon Hill Trek
The highest point you will reach at Poon Hill(3,210m). Here is a low risk of AMS. While some people may feel some effects of altitude over 3,000m. You will spend a couple of hours at Poon Hill.
Trip Extension
After Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek 7 days trip, it is possible to extend this trip to Chitwan National Park for 3 days. We also arrange 3 days 2 nights package from Kathmandu and Pokhara. It costs ranges from USD 150 to USD 550 USD, it depends on the basic to luxury hotel and resort accommodation.
Porter for Poon Hill Trek
The porter does not include in the price. On your request, you also arrange porter to carry your luggage and the porter cost ranges from USD 25 to USD 30 a day. A porter will carry 20kg to 25kg weight. We provide normally a porter for two clients.
Charging devices
Many teahouses have electricity or solar-powered electricity. Generally, teahouses will charge you $2 to $3 for a charging cost of devices such as camera and mobile phone. The cost becomes more expensive as as you go higher. Please carry a power bank or a small solar charger to avoid paying too much. A good Wifi and cellular signals on the trek too.
Group Size
1-20 pax will be in the group trek. Instead of group trek, a tailor-made private trek is also possible, no any additional cost for this. The group makes the trek more fun.
Tipping for Poon Hill Trek
On restaurants and cafes, it is nice to tip 10% of the bill. Tipping to driver, porter and guide is also normal. Tips for guide and porter, it depends on your satisfaction. We kindly advise to tip guide and porter, the 10 to 20 percent of the total trip cost you pay.
Carry Cash in Nepali Rupees
We suggest to carry with you USD 150 to USD 200 equivalent Nepali rupees cash with you. The will be good enough to pay hot showers, charging batteries and drinks. It will not cover tipping your guide and porter.
Money Exchange
ATM machines in Kathmandu and Pokhara provide Nepali currency. The ATMs accept Visa and Mastercard. Money changer will change US dollars, Pounds, Australian Dollars, Singaporean Dollars, Malaysian Ringgit, and Euros into Nepali rupees. They do not accept cards.
Important Notes
- No extra charge for a solo traveler.
- It is highly unusual to get a single room on the trek. Expect to share with someone of the same sex.
- Meals on the trek are included in the price, but does not include hot or cold drinks, alcohol, snacks, or extra food.
- Drones are not permitted unless you have a special permit to fly them. It is tricky to obtain permission, so leave it at home unless you need a drone.
- Please arrange trekking insurance before leaving your home country. We do not provide insurance for our clients.
