Detail Itinerary of Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek 9 days

01

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu

Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport, we receive you there and drive to hotel. Free day on your own walking around local market and meeting guide and group in the evening and stay night at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu to Pokhara(850m, 200km, 6 hours)

Your guide will receive you at your hotel in Kathmandu, and get tourist bus drive to together with guide to Pokhara for 6 hours scenic drive from Kathmandu. Walk around lakeside Pokhara, and stay night at Hotel Kumari Star Inn Pokhara.

Day 03: Pokhara to Tikhedhunga (1525m)

Breakfast and get car or cab drive to Nayapul (35km) takes 2 hours and moderate trek to Tikhedhunga of 5.8 miles/9.5km) distance can walk in 4/5 hours. Stay night at guest house. Ulleri is an alternative stop, but beware that it is a very steep climb up a stone staircase from Tikhedhunga in just 2km up to (1960m).

Day 04: Trek to Ghorepani (2880m)

Difficult trek to Ghorepani covers 6.5 miles/10.5km takes 5/6 hours. The tough day trek, you have to climb from 1550m to 2880m over 1400m. Most climbing is happens at the start on steep stairs. After Ulleri the terrain evens out a bit while you are still slowly climbing. Towards Ghorepani you will find yourselves entering the Rhododendron forests.

Day 05: Ghorepani to Tadapani (2500m)

Moderate trek covers nearly 11km takes 6/7 hours. The destination of today is first to Poon Hill, early morning Sunrise and the Himalayan Panorama and after breakfast, trek to Tadapani. The climb to Poonhill is a few hundred meters up in the dark at 5-5:30am) so bring a flashlight or head lamp. Then you arrive in time to see the sunrise light up the main Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain range. That is if you are lucky to have a clear day. Tadapani is also the best view point; you can get very close view of Mt Annapurna and Mt Fishtail.

Day 06: Tadapani to Ghandruk (1940m)

Enjoy the view and breakfast, and then downhill trek of 8km takes 4 to 5 hours through the forest trail to Ghandruk, a village of Gurung famous for British Gurkhas developed on the side of a hill. Lunch and explore the nice village of Ghandruk in the afternoon. Ghandruk also offer a great view of Annapurna South, Mt Fishtail and Hiunchuli.

Day 07: Ghandruk to Pokhara (1880m)

Breakfast, and continue downhill trek of 14 km to Nayapul on steep narrow trails through rice paddies field and a hotter climate for 5/6 hours, lunch at Birethanati and drive back to Pokhara from there. Stay night at Hotel Kumari Star Inn in Pokhara.

Day 08: Pokhara to Kathmandu(200km, 6 hours drive)

Early morning breakfast, and get 7:30 am tourist bus drive back to Kathmandu for 6 hours. The trip ends here.

Day 09: Kathmandu airport

Breakfast in the morning, free day on your own walking around Thamel market last minute shopping and final departure to airport, 3 hour before schedule time to get your flight back to home.

Accommodation and food on Poon Hill Trek

Most of the guest houses, hotels and tea houses in this area are very basic and provide minimum comfort. The bathrooms are communal with no toilet paper and in some of the hotels hot water is limited. Restaurants and hotels serve mostly vegetarian meals, the most popular dish is Dal Bhat (steamed rice and lentil soup that is generally served with vegetables), but you can also find dishes with beef or chicken.

Permits for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

All trekkers in Nepal must acquire the Trekkers’ Information Management Systems (TIMS) Card. The TIMS Card is mandatory to ensure the safety and security of trekkers in the general trekking areas. In addition to the TIMS Card, you also need a to get a ACAP permit to do the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek. A copy of your passport and two passport-size photographs are required to obtain a TIMS Card and ACAP permit.

Private and Group Trek

We organize group and private trek to Ghorepani Poon Hill. The bigger your group, the more discount you will get. We handle all group sizes, normally a group of 12 or more trekkers. Each group will lead by a guide and porters. We use one porter for two trekkers. The luggage weight limit is 9 kg per trekker. Hence, a porter will not carry more than 18 kg of two trekkers luggage weight.

Communication on Poon Hill Trek

During the Poon Hill Trek, the internet and WiFi are available at lodges/tea houses paying an extra cost. However, at high altitudes, we will communicate using the phone. Depending on the kind of network you use, you might get signals at trekking regions, but they might not be strong enough. If you wish, you can buy a local sim card in Kathmandu

 Preparation for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trip

Poonhill is an easy grade trek. You need to walk generally 4 to 5 hrs a day, taking regular breaks enjoying stunning mountain views. Ghorepani trek trail ascend and descend fairly. So you need to have an average physical fitness and strong determination. Some days may require longer waking hours. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood disease should inform us before booking the trek.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek-Altitude Sickness

The highest point you will reach at Poon Hill(3,210m). Here is a low risk of AMS. While some people may feel some effects of altitude over 3,000m. You will spend a couple of hours at Poon Hill.

Trip Extension

After Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek 7 days trip, it is possible to extend this trip to Chitwan National Park for 3 days. We also arrange 3 days 2 nights package from Kathmandu and Pokhara. It costs ranges from USD 150 to USD 550 USD, it depends on the basic to luxury hotel and resort accommodation.

Porter for the trek

The porter does not include in the price. On your request, you also arrange porter to carry your luggage and the porter cost ranges from USD 25 to USD 30 a day. A porter will carry 20kg to 25kg weight. We provide normally a porter for two clients.

Charging Devices

Many teahouses have electricity or solar-powered electricity. Generally, teahouses will charge you $2 to $3 for a charging cost of devices such as camera and mobile phone. The cost becomes more expensive as as you go higher. Please carry a power bank or a small solar charger to avoid paying too much. A good Wifi and cellular signals on the trek too.

Group Size

1-20 pax will be in the group trek. Instead of group trek, a tailor-made private trek is also possible, no any additional cost for this. The group makes the trek more fun.

Tipping for Poon Hill Trek Pokhara

On restaurants and cafes, it is nice to tip 10% of the bill. Tipping to driver, porter and guide is also normal. Tips for guide and porter, it depends on your satisfaction. We kindly advise to tip guide and porter, the 10 to 20 percent of the total trip cost you pay.

Carry Nepali Rupees in 9 days Poon Hill Trek

We suggest to carry with you USD 150 to USD 200 equivalent Nepali rupees cash with you. The will be good enough to pay hot showers, charging batteries and drinks. It will not cover tipping your guide and porter.

Money Exchange

ATM machines in Kathmandu and Pokhara provide Nepali currency. The ATMs accept Visa and Mastercard. Money changer will change US dollars, Pounds, Australian Dollars, Singaporean Dollars, Malaysian Ringgit, and Euros into Nepali rupees. They do not accept cards.

Important Notes

  • No extra charge for a solo traveler.
  • It is highly unusual to get a single room on the trek. Expect to share with someone of the same sex.
  • Meals on the trek are included in the price, but does not include hot or cold drinks, alcohol, snacks, or extra food.
  • Drones are not permitted unless you have a special permit to fly them. It is tricky to obtain permission, so leave it at home unless you need a drone.
  • Please arrange trekking insurance before leaving your home country. We do not provide insurance for our clients.
